Phone Won’t Charge? 6 Things to Try Before a Repair

Six quick checks you can do at home — and the signs it’s time to get the charging port looked at.

Try these first

  • ✓Use a different cable and plug — faulty cables are the most common cause.
  • ✓Try a different socket or charging method (a laptop USB port or wireless charger if your phone supports it).
  • ✓Restart your phone — software glitches can stop charging.
  • ✓Look into the charging port with a torch — pocket fluff and dust often build up and block the connection.
  • ✓Check for software updates, which sometimes fix charging bugs.
  • ✓Check your battery health in settings — a worn battery can charge slowly or drop suddenly.

Be careful cleaning the port

Never push metal objects like pins into the port — you can damage the contacts. A professional clean is quick and safe, and at iRepair it starts from just £9.99.

When it’s time for a repair

If your phone only charges at certain angles, the cable feels loose, or nothing works after the checks above, the port or battery likely needs attention. We clean or replace charging ports on the spot — in our Pride Hill shop or at your door.
